Repurposing a Historic Barn with Contemporary Amenities

The Guest House, Utility Barn, Recording Studio, a project in Harrisville, NH, showcases the transformation of an early 1800s timber frame barn that was slated for demolition on another property in Jaffrey, NH into a multifunctional retreat. Originally salvaged from Jaffrey,, the barn required extensive reconstruction to restore its frame to meet building snow load requirements. This project embodies the art of preserving historic structures while seamlessly integrating them into today’s living environments.

Project Highlights:

  • Adaptive Reuse: The historic timber frame was rebuilt and repurposed to create a guest house, utility barn, and recording studio.
  • Sustainable Restoration: Much of the original frame was preserved and complemented with sustainable materials.
  • Functional Spaces: The design includes living spaces that harmoniously blend with the existing house completed in Phase I.
